Bio

Lucile Maughan Johnson was born in Moscow, Idaho on Nov. 30, 1910 to John Raymond and Lera Clark Maughan. She married David Elmer Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple on June 8, 1933. She passed away March 27, 2010 in Salt Lake City. Lucile spent her childhood in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. Her education led to a Masters degree in Entomology from BYU. She and Elmer published numerous scientific papers and donated a large bee fly collection to BYU. A life-long member of the LDS Church, she filled a mission in Jacksonville, Florida, held many stake and ward positions, and spent the last 30 years in the ward library. A long time member of the DUP, she was a docent at the Pioneer Museum for many years. She was an avid gardener and reader. Lucile is survived by her children, D. Lynn (LaRae) Johnson, Vola Deen Shoemaker, Merline Bronson, Rebecca (June) McAllister, Carol (Vaughan) Goldsberry, and Sharon (Robert) Turner; 33 grandchildren; 97 great-grandchildren; sister Alice Nielson and brothers Ralph (LeJune), Lowell (Mary), Wesley (LuDean) and Clyde (Norma). She is preceded in death by her husband; one grandson; four great-grandchildren; one sister and two brothers. There will be a viewing Thursday, April 1, at the 21st Ward building, 680 E. 2nd Ave. from 7 to 9 p.m. and Fri., April 2, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Services will be at the 21st Ward building at 12:00 noon. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy, UT. Published 31 March 2010 in The Salt Lake Tribune (UT)
