Son of Benjamin Ellis, Jr. and Hannah McHenry Ellis. Husband of Elizabeth Ann Goolsby Ellis: Their children; 1. Benjamin Thomas Ellis 1825-1874 2. Nancy Melinda Ellis Milliken 1827-1862 3. Louisa Lemanda married James hall Moore. Have not found her burial. 4. Martha Jane Ellis Crowson 1832-1901 4. Mary Ann (twin) married Enoch P. Broxton 6. Missouri Carolyn married H.T. Sanders and had 3 children: Sanford b. 1856, Theodosia b. 1859 & Laura b. 1861. 2nd marriage to Francis Callaway Wise. They had 2 daughters; Cora b. 1869 & Mary b, 1872. 7. John Irving b. 1838 d. 1839 (on the way to Texas) 8. James Berkley Ellis 1840-1922 9. Charles Washington b. 1848 **The family story is a young brother born 9 May 1848, Charles Washington Ellis a boy of thirteen was determined to go to WAR was in the flat boat with his brother and the father John J. Ellis, equipped his fine horse and took two mules to New Orleans to retrieve Charley. Had him mustered out of the army and made him ride a mule all the way from New Orleans to Crockett, Texas.** Great great grandfather of F. H. Burton
