Kearney (NE) Daily Hub October 1985: KEARNEY--A funeral for Floyd W. Stickney, 66, of 3320 Fourth Ave., who died Sunday, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Zion Lutheran Church here with the Rev. John Hafermann and the Rev. Carl Brueggemann officiating. Burial will be in Kearney Cemetery. Memorials are planned to the church or the Good Samaritan Hospital Hospice Fund. He was born April 15, 1919, at Poole and lived in Kearney most of his life. He was in the steel building industry business for 25 years before retiring in March of 1982. He owned Stickney Steel Inc. from 1970-1982. He played American Legion Baseball in Ravenna and professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals organization from 1938-1942. In 1942 he joined the U. S. Army, serving in the Army Air Corp [sic] during World War II. He managed the Kearney Irishmen semipro baseball team from 1946-50, the Superior Knights in 1950-53 and again the Kearney Irishmen in 1953-55. He was also a professional baseball scout for the Cardinals from 1948-56. Earlier this year, he was elected to the Nebraska Semipro Baseball Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Kearney American Legion Post 52, TPA, UCT and Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife, Hazel of Kearney; son Gary of Kearney; daughter Janel Geiser of Tonkawa, Okla.; three grandchildren; brother Robert of Kearney; and sister Gwen Gaymon of Hastings. Horner-Lieske Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
