Bio

Funeral services for Mrs. Walter Stickney, of Pleasanton, who died in her sleep at her farm home Thursday, July 13, were held from St. Mary's Catholic church at Pleasanton Monday morning. Father Jacob Bauer of Ravenna officiated at the services, as Fr. Jan Smutny was away on vacation. Frances Martha Mendyk Stickney, daughter of Joseph and Antoinnette Mendyk was born in Howard county, Nebr. on Jan. 15, 1898. She was baptized during infancy of the Roman Catholic faith at Chojnice, (Ashton) Nebr. While a young girl her family moved to Loup City, Neb. There she grew to womanhood and on January 17, 1919 was united in marriage to Walter A. Stickney. To this union, two sons were born. In 1927 the small family moved to a farm near Pleasanton, Nebr. and lived in this vicinity until she passed away in her sleep on July 13, 1961. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Walter; two sons, Floyd of Kearney and Bob of Ravenna; six grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Sophie Lipenski, Omaha; Mrs. Nellie Czaplewski, Loup City; Mrs. Teckla Mauler, Kearney; four brothers, Joe of Loup City; Pete and Stanley, Omaha and Sylvester of Hammett, Idaho. Preceding her in death were her parents, three sister, and one brother. Frances, as she was known to her friends was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was happiest when busy doing something for her family. Her very sudden departure leaves an empty sadness which her family and friends find difficult to accept. Pallbearers were Carl and Joe Axmann, Jack Hunter, John Nickman, Sylvester Ripp and Carl Stark. Interment was at Highland Park cemetery at Ravenna. Source: The Ravenna News , July 20, 1961
