Matilda I. "Tillie" Schenck, 84, of St. Paul, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul. Tillie was born on Jan. 14, 1926, at Elyria, the daughter of Frank and Veronica (Koziol) Wadas. She was united in marriage to Eddie Schenck on Feb. 9, 1948, at Elba. He preceded her in death. Survivors are: daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Gary Gay of St. Paul; son, Ron Schenck of Ellisburg, NY; brother and sisters-in-law, Leonard and Bernice Wadas of Madison, Wisc., June Wadas of Johnstown, CO and Detta Wadas of Denver, CO; sister, Agnes Kinser of Eugene, OR. grandchildren, Chelsea and Rod Chase of Idaho Falls, ID, Danny Schenck of Highlands Ranch, CO, Colin Gay of Seattle, WA and Brian Gay of St. Paul; great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Thatcher Chase; and special family friend, Pamela Schenck Kelly of Highlands Ranch, CO. Tillie grew up on the family farm near Elyria and after she completed the 8th grade, the family moved to a farm near midway corner west of St. Paul. She then worked for Mitch Knothe at the Howard Hotel in St. Paul. Tillie and Eddie lived their entire married life in St. Paul. She worked as a waitress for Art & Dorothy Lynch at the American Legion Club and also for them, when they built the new Lynch's Supper Club. She later managed the American Legion Club for five years and then went to work for Paul & Vi Schuman at Paul's Supper Club. Her last job was as a cashier at the Pump and Pantry in St. Paul. After Eddie's death on Aug. 4, 1996, she continued to live in her home. In 2003 she moved to the Matelyn Retirement Community until Jan. 2010, when she moved to Heritage Living Center. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. Tillie enjoyed taking care of all her family and loved entertaining family and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Steven Gay; brothers, Stan, Hank & Ray Wadas and infants, Constance and Freddie Wadas; and sisters, Florence Moraczewski, Evelyn Whetstone and infant, Loretta Wadas.
