Raymond E. Wadas, 66, of Johnstown died Tuesday, July 17, at the Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado inpatient unit.He was born Oct. 2, 1934, in Elyria, Neb., to Frank and Veronica (Koziol) Wadas.On Oct. 3, 1953, he married June Mickelsen in St. Paul, Neb.Mr. Wadas’ job with Public Service Co. as a nuclear operator brought him and his family to Johnstown in May 1971. He helped found the football little league in Johnstown and he coached the kids for 14 years. He served on the Johnstown Town Board and was mayor from 1989-93.When Mr. Wadas and his family moved to Johnstown, there was no Catholic church there. He helped make St. John the Baptist Church a reality, and he served as the Parish Council president. He and his wife have owned and operated a restaurant, hardware store and a car wash.Survivors are his wife, June Wadas of Johnstown; two daughters, Denise Flores of Berthoud and Pat Freeman of Greeley; five sons, Rod Wadas and Dan Wadas, both of Johnstown, Bill Wadas of Peoria, Ariz., Steve Wadas of Cheyenne and Bob Wadas of Cave Creek, Ariz.; three sisters, Florence Moraczewski and Tillie Schenck, both of St. Paul, and Agnes Kinser of Eugene, Ore.; a brother, Leonard Wadas of Lincoln, Neb.; and 13 grandchildren. His parents; sister, Evelyn Whetstone; and two brothers, Henry and Stan Wadas, are deceased.Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Adamson Memorial West Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Johnstown Cemetery.Friends may visit from 1-6 p.m. Friday at the West Chapel.In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church or Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado in care of the Adamson Memorial West Chapel.
