James Travis Bonner, son of Charles Travis and Dora Elizabeth Ivy, was born in Fairfield, Texas on July 18, 1953. Known as Jimmy, he was named for his grandfather Ivy and his father. He graduated from Fairfield High School and attended Navarro College and Sam Houston State University. Jimmy married Mary Alice Atkeisson on August 24, 1974. She was born October 22, 1951 in Navarro Co., graduated from Kerens High School and received her teaching degree from Tarleton State College in 1973. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. Jimmy and Mary Alice had two daughters: Jamie Lynn: Allyson Marie. They were divorced. In 1999, Jimmy married Reba Kay Franklin-Curry. Jimmy made his home in Stewards Mill putting into practice his previous training and honors as a distinguished member of the Fairfield Young Farmers, he won Farm Family of the Year in Texas. . He bought five acres of the land that Travis had inherited from Paul and built a house near the site where Paul's and May's burned. Jimmy died from a heart attack on October 13, 2000 and was buried in Faulkenberry Cemetery in Limestone Co., Texas. The Fairfield Recorder, Thursday, November 2, 2000 James T. Bonner Funeral services were held Friday in Fairfield for James Travis Bonner, 47, of Fairfield who died Monday, Oct. 23, at his home. Mr. Bonner was born July 18, 1953 in Fairfield to Charles Travis and Dora Ivy Bonner. He was married New Year's Day, 1999 to Kay Curry-Bonner. A graduate of Fairfield High School, he attended Navarro College in Corsicana and Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. He was a 24-year employee of Nucor Steel, and served on the Fairfield Independent School District board of trustees for 12 years. He was very active in the Young Farmers Association, and had served as Area 8 President and as a State Vice President. He served three years on the Freestone County Fair Board, and served as an assistant swine superintendent. He also served on the Pleasant Grove Water Board. Services were conducted at 3 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, with Terry Skinner officiating. A musical tribute of his favorite songs was played. At a special graveside service, held at Faulkenberry Cemetery in Groesbeck, family and friends held either a pink o white balloon. As a special song by Melissa Ethridge, "Talking To My Angel," was played, everyone released their balloon. Pallbearers were Alan Gibson, Ernie Bell, Frank Bonner, Bill Minchew, Kenny Bulger, Kenneth Bulger, Richie Gonzales and Brent Bradford. Honorary pallbearers were Don Posey, Mark Chavers, Barry Capps, Danny Robertson, Edward Johnson, Patricia Tate and Ellen Jones. Mr. Bonner is survived by his wife, Kay-Curry Bonner of Fairfield; three daughters, Jamie and Allison Bonner of Fairfield, and Reagan Curry of Austin; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and David Barnes of Fairfield; a sister-in-law, Ann Franklin Price of Huntsville; a nephew, David Barnes, Jr. of Fairfield; nieces Beth Barnes of Fairfield and Haley Price of Huntsville; a mother-in-law, Reba Franklin of Groesbeck; several aunts and uncles, and many friends. Arrangements were made by Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.
