Bio

Wife of J. P. Cooper She was born in Pontotoc County in the portion of the county that became part of Lee County. Lee County was formed in 1866, consuming portions of both Pontotoc and Itawamba counties. Although her marker spells her name Alfaretta, her given name is spelled Alvaretta, according to Chancery Court documents in Pontotoc County providing for her guardianship by her maternal uncle William Joseph Norwood after her father George Washington Dandridge was killed in August of 1860.
