The Carnegie Herald, Wed., July 19, 1944 U.S. Motsenbocker Rites Are Held At Pentecostal Church Funeral services for U.S. Motsenbocker were held Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the Pentecostal Holiness church here with Rev. Sneed Dodd of Mountain View in charge and Rev. S.T. Isbell, former Carnegie pastor, assisting. Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery under direction of Pitcher Funeral Home. Ulysses S. Motsenbocker was born January 15, 1867, in Coffeyville, Kans., and died at his home in Carnegie Thursday, July 13, 1944, at the age of 77 years and 7 months. He lived in Kansas until he was 12 years old then moved with his parents to Texas where he lived until he reached manhood. He came to Oklahoma soon after the first opening and settled in Cleveland county. He moved with his family to Caddo county in 1909 where he remained until his death, living in the vicinity of Anadarko, Alfalfa, Alden and Sedan and in Carnegie since 1931. He was married to Miss Lucinda E. Chapman Nov. 17, 1895, at Noble, Okla. To them nine children were born, four preceding him in death. Survivors include his wife of the home address; two daughters, Mrs. W.M. Harrison and Mrs. C.R. Harris, both of Carnegie; three sons, John of Long Beach, Calif.; Gerald of San Francisco, and Edward of Carman, Calif., and two grandchildren, Miss Lucille John, Wichita, Kans., and Pvt. Kenneth John, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, who were reared in his home. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Appleby of Noble and Mrs. Maggie Lilly of Garnet, Kans., and two brothers, Sam Motsenbocker of Childress, Texas, and Albert Motsenbocker of Van Zant county, Texas; also 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Out of town relatives here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Appleby and Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Motsenbocker of Noble, Sam Motsenbocker, Charlie, Jessie, Johnny and Sammy Motsenbocker, all of Childress, Texas, W.T. Motsenbocker, Oklahoma City, and Miss Lucille John, Wichita. The following submitted by Ann Gardner #47547734: Ulysses S. Motsenbocker was a son of Jacob, #97246210, and his wife Malinda Cockerham, who had married in 1854 in Indiana. (marriage index) Malinda was listed with her family on the 1870 Coffey County, Kansas census with her family, but not the 1875 Pleasant Township, Coffey County, Kansas State Census, post office Strawn. Graves have been lost and many were relocated in this area due to the construction of the John Redmond Dam & Reservoir in the 1960s. Jacob & Malinda Motsenbocker were listed on the 1860 census in St. Clair County, Missouri with their family. They were listed in Coffey County on the 1865 Kansas State Census. The obituary is incorrect, as Ulysses was born in Coffey County, Kansas, not Coffeyville. This information also appears in a Family Data Collection on Ancestry.com. Malinda Cockerham was the second wife of Jacob Motsenbocker and he was listed on the 1880 census in Wise County, Texas with wife Emma. Jacob's brother John had also been in Coffey County and was also listed in Wise County, Texas with a new wife.
