ROSE LONOWSKI LOUP CITY - Rose M. Lonowski, 97, of Loup City died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Loup City. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., with a 4 p.m. sodality rosary, Sunday at Peters Funeral Home in Loup City. Visitation will continue from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 vigil service, Sunday at the church. Mrs. Lonowski was born on Sept. 25, 1901, on a farm near Elyria to Zacharias and Mary (Carkoski) Greenwalt. She grew up on the family farm and was educated in Elyria schools. She married Leo D. Lonowski on Nov. 15, 1920, at Ord. The couple moved in 1921 to Canada, where they farmed until November 1941, when they returned to a farm east of Loup City. The couple retired in 1973 and moved into Loup City. Mr. Lonowski died on March 26, 1975. Mrs. Lonowski later moved to Westside Park and entered the Rose Lane Home in Feburary 1993. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards and dancing. She was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church, Council of Catholic Women and Rosary Sodality. Survivors include one daughter, Evelyn Gappa of Grand Island; one son, Chester Lonowski of Loup City; 23 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Louie Greenwalt of Elyria; and one sister, Dorothy Niemeyer of Wood River. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Lawrence and Floyd Lonowski; one daughter, Laura "Lorraine" Zalewski; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Edwin Greenwalt; and one sister, Magdalen Wisniski.
