Mary Antonia (Proskocil) Cerny, 95, of Sargent died Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Valley County Nursing Home in Ord. Mary was born Sept. 6, 1914, at Comstock to Anton and Antonia (Vacek) Proskocil. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Cerny; and an infant son, Anton. Survivors are: brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Pat Proskocil; sisters and brother-in-law, Lillian Trvdik and Dorothy and Stan Key; sister-in-law, Evelyn Proskocil and a host of friends and relatives. Mary and Frank enjoyed helping raise their nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, brothers and sisters. Mary and Frank lived east of Sargent all of their married life until retiring in 1979 and moving to Sargent. During Mary's life she enjoyed baking, sewing, embroidering, square dancing, playing cards, gardening, canning pickles, dances, bingo and gambling in South Dakota. Mary was a member of the Better Homemakers, Extension Club and Rebekeh Lodge. She was a Sargent Leader correspondent for over 50 years. Mary will be greatly missed by her loving family. She was also preceded in death her parents, Anton and Antonia Proskocil, infant brother, Stanley Anton, brother, James Proskocil, sisters, Alice "Jean" Pierce and Emily Sinule.
