KINGSLAND Eugene L. Motl, 85, left to meet his Lord in Heaven on Friday, May 7, 2010. Born Aug. 18, 1924, in Oscar, Texas, Eugene was the oldest of eight children from Charles Ladis Motl and Livie Marie Divis of the Temple area. He was raised in Tankersley in the farming business and attended Angelo State University and Kansas University, then served in the artillery division of the elite 42nd Infantry of the U.S. Army also known as the "Rainbow Division" which fought in the famous Battle of the Bulge during World War II. On Sept. 27, 1950, he married the love of his life, Rosalie Emily Strakos, of Miles, Texas, and they spent 59 happy years together. Eugene and Rosalie lived in the San Angelo area (Wall, Fairview) and were blessed with two children, Joyce Motl Stanley and David Eugene Motl. Eugene had a lifelong career as an engineer for the Texas Highway Department (35 years) where he designed multiple highways and bridges throughout West Texas, including the Houston Harte Freeway and the Bryant Boulevard in San Angelo. He was active in many organizations throughout his life, including the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club and the Men's Club at St. Charles Church. Eugene and Rosalie retired to Llano, Texas, in 1996 where they built a house overlooking the river and became active members of St. Charles Church in Kingsland. Eugene was a loving Grandpa to seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Eugene had strong values and always stood up for what he believed in. He was a craftsman of many trades and built the three homes he and Rosalie lived in. He loved reading, playing dominos and amazed many with his knowledge of most topics and always had humorous comments and stories. He was dedicated to his family and his Catholic faith and was proud of his children's and grandchildren's many accomplishments. Eugene was preceded in death by his siblings, Wilton Motl, Margueritte Ray and LaNelle Hamm. He is survived by his loving wife, Rosalie; children Joyce Stanley and husband Lynn and David Motl and wife Sylvia; siblings Virgina (Babe) Jones, Ladis Motl Jr., Gwendolyn Cunningham, Glendolyn Stepan; brothers-in-law Enoch Ray and Warren Jones; seven grandchildren, Sean Stanley, Sheryl Maddox and husband Stuart, Stacy Stanley and fiance Matthew Upchurch, Michelle Motl and fiance, Walter Duke, Alisha Motl, Haley Motl and Jason Motl; two great-grandchildren, Samantha Maddox and Sutton Maddox; and a host of nieces and nephews.
