Athens — Noah F. Keeton of Alleyton died June 25, 2010 at the age of 90 at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Weimar.. He was born Feb. 8, 1920 in Athens. He was married to Stella H. Cofer Keeton on July 19, 1841. She died on Oct. 19, 2003. Services are set for 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. The graveside service will be 2 p.m., Wednesday at Payne Cemetery in Athens with the Rev. Mike Morris officiating.Rev Frank Upchurch gave service at the cemetery . Mr. Keeton had lived in Alleyton since 1996. He is Methodist, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He served in the Army Air Corps. He is survived by: daughter Paricia Ann Burdick and husband Jerry of West Columbia; sons Richard Firman Keeton of Fayetteville and Joe Donald Keeton of Alleyton; sister Dorothy Nell Owens of Oklahoma; brother W. R. Keeton of Spokane, Wash.; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his parents, William H. Keeton and Grutrude Oney Keeton; sister Dixie Mae Wheeler; brothers Lloyd Keeton and Joe Bailey Keeton. Mr. Keeton was a retired purchase agent and warehouse foreman at Ethyl Dow and then a construction trade general forman for Teamsters Union No. 1111 in Houston. Noah Firman Keeton was born on February 8, 1920 in Picken's Spur, Texas to William Doy and Gertrude Oney Keeton. He passed away on Friday, June 25th. He was 90 years old. His goal was to live to be 100. He did pretty well. Noah had three brothers and two sisters. His brother William Richard Keeton lives in Washington, and his sister Dorothy Nell White lives in Oklahoma. His siblings Robert Lloyd Keeton, Dixie Mae Wheeler and Joe Bailey Keeton have passed away. In 1941, Noah married his sweetheart Stella Harrietta Coffer. He loved to tell everyone how they met as teenagers while he was trying to steal a watermelon from her family's watermelon patch. Unfortunately he was unsuccessful because Stella had a shotgun. However, the couple eventually united and were blessed with 62 years of a loving marriage before Stella passed away in 2003. They lived in Brazoria County from 1942 to 1982. They moved to Frankston, Texas after Noah retired. In 1997 the couple moved to Alleyton, Texas. Noah and Stella had three children. Richard Firman Keeton, Joe Donald Keeton and Patricia Ann Burdick. Richard lives in Fayetteville, Texas with his young son Richard. Joe's home is in Alleyton, Texas where he lived with his wife Ruth before she passed away. Pat and her husband Jerry live in West Columbia, Texas. Noah and Stella were also blessed with seven grandchildren; Pauline, Richard, April, Jami, Bill, Duane and Sandra. They also have fourteen great-grandchildren; Michael, Winter, Nicholas, Ronnie, Robert, McKenzie, Mallorie, Tab, Kip, Andrew, Jake, Kamrin, Sydney, and Mia. Noah was proud to have served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in his youth. The CCC was instrumental in building many of the state parks we enjoy today. Later Noah served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was proud to serve his country during WWII and had many stories to tell. Eventually, he was honorably discharged due to a back injury. As a civilian, Noah worked in the chemical industry for Ethyl Dow and other plants in the Brazosport area. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union and served as a union steward. Noah was a smart, witty and interesting man. He loved to reminisce about "the old days" with anyone he could - especially if the story was a funny one. He enjoyed college football, politics, dominos and solitaire. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
