Bio

Orval Wilson Patterson died April 8 at the Good Samaritan Center, Superior. He was 93. The funeral was Saturday at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kenneth Fairbrother officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery. Patterson was one of 13 children born to John William and Sadie Ferguson Patterson. He was born Jan. 18,1899, on a farm southeast of Webber near where Lovewell Dam is located. When he was very young, the family moved to Nebraska. He started school at Hastings and later attended Doniphan schools. When he was in third grade, the family returned to Kansas. He graduated from the eighth grade at Hurley school near Republic. After working as a hired hand in Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas, he began farming on his own in 1924. He was united in marriage to Lillie Mae Andreasen June 23, 1923. To this union three children were born. Lillie died Jan. 10, 1938. He was married to Rose Mae White Thayer on March 2, 1953. She died April 22, 1988. Patterson became a county commissioner and served for eight years prior to his retirement from farming in 1962. He moved to Superior in 1964. He became a member of the United Methodist Church July 23, 1972. Failing health forced him to move to the Good Samaritan Center Feb. 26,1984. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, three infant sisters, Dessie, Cora and Mary and Littie Snyder, Elsie Wilcox and Sylvia Wyatt; three brothers, Roscoe, Dale and George; three step-children, Wayne Thayer, Darrel Thayer and Jerry Thayer and one grandchild, Timothy Patterson. Survivors include two daughters Mrs. Wylie Blair (Evelyn), Superior; Mrs. Alan Frerichs(Betty), Vacaville, Calif.; a son, Roy, Cambridge; step-daughters, Mrs. Everett Barfknecht (Nila), Nelson; Mrs. John Adams (Wanda), Superior, Elaine Briggs, Plainwell, Mich.; Muriel Ray, Alliance, Ohio; two step-sons. Max Thayer, Republic, and Verle Thayer, Alliance, Ohio; three sisters, Hazel Rasmussen and Laura Cury, both of Beloit, and Opal Earl, Sunset, Utah; six grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
