Bio

Ruby Kotrla Kubala, 90, of Columbus, passed away May 19 at Colorado-Fayette Medical Center in Weimar. She was born in La Grange, Jan. 14, 1915 to Rudolph and Julia (Horak) Kotrla and married W.J. (Bill) Kubala, May 16, 1933. Her skills as a seamstress endeared her to many of the ladies in Columbus during the decades of the 50s, 60s and 70s. She often said privately to her family "If they can imagine and describe the dress they want, I can make it for them." Because it was her passion, she happily did just that for those who sought her out for their needs. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Georgie Mae Kubala Lincke; sisters, Dorothy Cook and Margie Kotrla; and six brothers, Eugene, Elo, Randy, Lester, Floyd and Alfred Kotrla. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Hubert M. and Carol Kubala of Pearland and Billy and Patty Kubala of Houston; son-in-law, Cleburn Lincke of Houston; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Elizabeth Kotrla of San Antonio and Frank and Gladys Kotrla of Baytown; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted May 21 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with Father Dan Kahlich officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Services were under the direction of Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. Pallbearers were Robert and Trevor Silvia, Brent Kubala, Joe Atwal, Jeff Steger and Mark Warner. Colorado County Citizen, May 25, 2005
