BONNIE JO SUMMERS ROSCOE — Bonnie Jo Summers died Monday, June 14, 2010, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Roscoe Baptist Church with Rev. Adam Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Roscoe Cemetery. Services for Mrs. Summers will be under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater. A family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater. Bonnie Jo Summers was born on June 27, 1927, in Hamby, Texas. She was married to Charles E. Summers on March 28, 1944 in Sweetwater and they were married for 66 years. She worked in the late 1950s at the Colorado City Record as a sportswriter for four years, and then worked for 17 years for Dr. Billy Bridgford as a dental assistant. After moving to Corpus Christi because of a transfer, she worked for Gulf Tractor Company for 12 years. She retired in 1989 from full-time work and moved to Roscoe where she worked with the Roscoe school system for 15 years as a substitute teacher. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Roscoe and graduated from Roscoe High School. Bonnie was very active in sports and school activities with her two sons while they were attending school in Colorado City. She devoted many hours of volunteer work for the baseball leagues and served as treasurer for the league for several years. Bonnie also loved the Dallas Cowboys and seldom missed a Cowboys game. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Charles E. Summers of Roscoe; two sons, Dickie Summers and wife Shirley of Loraine and Lee Summers and wife Donna of Loraine; three grandchildren, Kimbrell Caughron, Chuck Summers and Kaysi Grisby; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, J.C. Chapman and wife Joy of Amarillo; and one sister, Ann Teaff of Roscoe. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Arnold; her father, Rhodes Arnold; and a brother, John Charles Arnold. Pallbearers will be Daylon Althof, Bryan Heaps, Doyle Edmiston, Lyndall Underwood, Bill Treadaway and Chuck Summers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jady Underwood and Jody Underwood.
