Grand Island Daily Independent Wednesday 13 Dec 1944 p. 4 & 10 H. Lilienthal Dies; a Native of Hall county Services on Friday for Widely Known Retired Farmer Henry Lilienthal, 70, retired Hall and Merrick county stockman and farmer, passed away shortly after nine o'clock last evening in the family home at 1019 West John street. Mr. Lilienthal appeared in his usual health last evening, thought he had not been feeling well lately. Death was attributed to a heart ailment. Funeral rites will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in the Livingston-Sonderman funeral home. the Rev. John Rupley, pastor of St. Paul's English Lutheran church, will conduct the service. committal will be in Grand Island cemetery. Mr. Lilienthal was born on a farm southeast of the city Apr. 7, 1874 to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lilienthal, Sr., pioneer residents of Hall county. When he was a child, the family moved to Merrick county. In this city, on Feb. 28, 1896, Mr. Lilienthal and Miss Dora Wiese were married (Hall County marriage records, Book 5, p. 538). Mr. and Mrs. Lilienthal went immediately to the Lilienthal home place in Merrick county to make their first home. In 1926, they purchased the old Art Roby farm southwest of the city. In 1941 they retired from the farm and came into the city to their home. Mr. Lilienthal was a skilled stockman and feeder as well as a general farmer. He was unusually successful in his chosen work. though he had retired from the active management and working of his farm lands, Mr. Lilienthal was a frequent visitor to the farm and aided his children in their operation. Mr. Lilienthal was baptized in the Lutheran church. His only social affiliation was with the Platt Deutsche Vereen. Mr. Lilienthal is survived by his widow; four sons, Emil, Harry and Roy Lilienthal, all of this community, and Ray Lilienthal of Laramie, Wyo.; two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Herman of Clarks and Mrs. Gustave Frauen of this community; a sister, Mrs. William Wiese of Cairo; and thirteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, , Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lilienthal, Sr., two infant children, two brothers, William and Detlef Lilienthal, and two sisters, Laura, who died in childhood, and Mrs. Henry Schaaf, Sr. Visitation hours will be from 7 to 9 o'clock Thursday evening at the Livingston-sonderman funeral home.
