Bio

Verdie Lois Nelson, 92, of Grants Pass died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at her home. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Laurel Cemetery, with Duane Stark conducting. A reception will follow at her daughter's home, 2185 Lower River Road, Grants Pass. Nelson was born June 25, 1911, in Farmington, Ark., and grew up in Hooper, Neb. In 1929, she married Lester Nelson, who died before her. They moved to Wonder in 1943, and they bought land in Wilderville, where they raised their family. She was a homemaker who enjoyed growing vegetable and flower gardens. She also enjoyed crafts and won ribbons for her artex painting at the fair. She held Bible classes in her home and played on the Wonder church baseball team.
