Bio
Gertrude S. Rutledge, 79, born August 20, 1930 in Crosby, Texas to Frank & Marie (Schmadyl) Strokos; went to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 2, 2010 in Highlands, Texas with her loving family by her side. Gertrude has been a life long resident of the local area where she worked as a care giver and raised her beloved family. In her free time she enjoyed to take walks, work on puzzles, collect elephants and pick up cans. But what she loved most of all where the times she shared with her family especially her grandchildren who she dearly adored. Her family and friends will always cherish the memories of her loving and caring nature, how she always was willing to help anyone that needed it and how happy she always had been. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Carlton Biggie Rutledge; parents, Frank & Marie Strokos; daughter, Peggy Dencause; daughter, Brenda Weber; son-in-law, James Owen; son-in-law, Robert Weber; son-in-law, James Townsend; brother's, Albert Strokos, Charlie Strokos, Ronny Strokos, Robert Strokos and Frank Strokos; sister's, Georgie Glover, Mary Kirk and Bernice Fowler. She is survived by her children, Kathey Townsend, Calvin Rutledge and Richard Rutledge; grandchildren, Charles, Dennae, Sheila, Tim & wife Mary, Kelli, Sarah, Ashley, Richard Jr., Brianna, Bobby, Jamie & husband Charles, Cameron, John, Blake, Alicia, Haley, Nick Jr. and Ian; great grandchildren, Jesse, Trinity, Brenden and Nickolas; siblings, Elsie Badgett, Margie Martin, Elizabeth Hegemeyer, Richard Strokos, Ernest Strokos and Ruth Ann Simon; special friend, Mary Stout and numerous other family and friends. A visitation will be held Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Sterling~White Funeral Home from 5-8pm. A funeral service will be held Monday, June 7, 2010 at Sterling~White Funeral Home at 10:00am with Rev. David Brumbelow officiating. Services have been entrusted to Sterling~White Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby Lynchburg Road, Highlands, Texas 77562. The family would like to express a special thank you to Odyssey Hospice and there nurses, Renee, Debra and Pam for the wonderful care they have given to Mrs. Rutledge.
