Donald C. Luedtke, 80, of Arcadia died Thursday, June 10, 2010, at the Veteran's Medical Center in Omaha.Donald was born Jan. 31, 1930, at Arcadia to Herman and Jennie (Maurery) Luedtke. On Jan. 30, 1955, he married Lola J. Norman at Hastings. She preceded him in death on Nov. 17, 2001. Survivors are: sons and daughter-in-law, Alan and Deb of Woodstock, Ga., Brian of Columbus Fort Benning, Ga., and Curt of Hemet, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Jim Tatro of Westminster, Colo.; sister, Gladys Shipley of Loup City; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild and a host of friends and relatives. Donald was raised in rural Arcadia and attended a rural country school. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1948 until his discharge in 1952. Following the service, he worked in Hastings. During the Vietnam War in the early 1960s, Donald worked at the Cornhusker Ammunition Plant and worked as a paramedic and fireman in Grand Island. Donald and Lola purchased a farm one mile west of Arcadia. This is where the couple spent the rest of their lives where they farmed and had a dairy. Donald was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kersey and Keith Luedtke; and a sister, Lola Gogan.
