Gladys R. Shipley, 101, 22 days shy of her 102nd birthday, of Loup City passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at the Burwell Community Memorial Health Center. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at the Arcadia United Methodist Church. Rev. Dr. Jeff D. Hale will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Gladys R. was born November 30, 1915, at Arcadia, Nebraska to Herman E. and Jennie M. (Maurery) Luedtke. She was raised and received in education in the Arcadia area. As a teenager she worked as a housekeeper. On October 27, 1935, Gladys was united in marriage to Paul E. Murray at Grand Island, Nebraska. To this union six children were born. The couple resided in Arcadia and Greeley, Nebraska and Oakland, Iowa. On September 18, 1972, she married Glenn Shipley at St. Paul. They made their home in Loup City. They both enjoyed traveling to Washington, Oregon and Wisconsin along with fishing together in Nebraska. Gladys worked at various cafes and at the nursing home in Loup City. She also worked at the Ammunition Plant near Grand Island and at the Gibbon Turkey Processing Plant. She was a member of the Loup City Methodist Church, UMW and church circles. She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, all kinds of music and playing the piano. Gladys’ crocheting has traveled all over the world. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Joyce Murray of King City, California; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rae Jean and Raymond Zauha of Omaha, Connie D. Ross of Sanford, Florida and Diana and Tim Hurlburt of Burwell; 19 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 34 great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen Shipley; a daughter, Carol D. Hatt; a son, Edwin E. Murray; two grandchildren, Dennis Zauha and Brenna Murray; three brothers, Kersey, Keith and Donald Luedtke; a sister, Lola M. Gogan; and a precious cat, Angie who was her companion and joy for 15 years.
