Mrs. Bertha Eicher Orsak of Yoakum died Thursday, July 3, 1986 at Stevens Nursing Home in Yoakum, where she was a resident patient for about a month. She attained the age of 90 years, 7 months and 26 days. Rosary and prayer services were held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 4 conducted by the Rev. Father Jerry Caponi at the Buffington Funeral Home in Yoakum where the body lay in state until 9:30 a.m. Saturday when it was taken to the church. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 5 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Yoakum with Holy Mass offered by Father Caponi. Altar server was a grandson, Andrew Machicek of Shiner. Her Godchild, Margaret Kutec of Yoakum was the lector. Offertory participants were a grandson and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Zissa of Houston and a Godchild, Miss Adela Kutac of Yoakum. Burial took place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Yoakum. Serving as pallbearers were her grandsons, Johnnie J. Machicek of Shiner, David Zissa of Houston; a nephew, Laddie Eicher of Yoakum; Godsons, Tony Kutac of Yoakum, Louis Kutac of Port Lavaca; and a close friend of the family, Jody Lahodny of Shiner. Mrs. Orsak was born Nov. 7, 1895 in the South Mustang community between Shiner and Yoakum, daughter of Josef and Katherine (Jaks) Eicher. Her family made their home south of Shiner in December, 1890, coming from Breslau and Moravia. Mrs. Orsak was born and reared on the family farm. On November 8, 1923, she was married to John Vincent Orsak in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Yoakum. They settled at Midway and farmed for their livelihood until about 1954 when they moved to Yoakum, due to Mr. Orsak’s failing health. They resided at 511 Martin St. and later returned to the Midway area. Her husband died Aug. 17, 1974. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Adolph and Agnes Orsak of Yoakum; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cecilie and Lebert Zissa of Houston, Agnes and Johnnie H. Machicek of Rt. 2 Shiner, at Midway; four grandchildren, Richard and his wife Bernice Zissa, and David Zissa, all of Houston, Johnnie Jr. and Andrew Machicek of Shiner (Midway) and two great-grand-daughters, Adrianne and Alexandra Zissa, both of Houston; one sister, Mrs. Louis (Sophie) Cmakal of Yoakum; many nephews, nieces and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, Dec. 6, 1936; her mother, Jan. 10, 1933; one half brother, Joseph J. Eicher, Sept. 1, 1971; a brother, John J. Eicher, Sr., June 5, 1968; one sister, Mrs. Joseph (Minnie) Smolka, Jan 16, 1969.
