A poem written by his granddaughter, Michelle Alexander, in 1995, depicting his fate with Alzheimer. Grandpa I lived a long hard life And I married a wonderful wife. I never went to school, That's why some may call me a fool. The days they came and went; Many evenings my energy was spent. Then one day I forgot the date; I realized my awful fate. More and more I lost my past; The years they didn't go so fast. I went to live in many special homes Where eventually I withered away to nothing but bones. Now I look and feel like I am dead Because all I do is lay in bed. My family comes and goes But do I know them? Nobody knows. Sometimes I smile and sometimes I cry, When my only wish is to really die. Seguin Gazette-Enterprise, Thursday, January 7, 1999 Frank J. Patek, 77, of Seguin, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999.
