Lawrenceville Republican IL on Thu, 15 May 1919 Pg 1 "OBITUARY Mrs. Hattie Rebecca Smith was born September 11, 1851, and departed this life May 8, 1919, Thursday morning at 5 30 o 'clock, aged 68 years, 7 months and 27 days. She was married to Philip Schaffer at the age of fifteen years to whom were born six children-Chas. Schaffer, Mrs. Susie Mott and Mrs. Carrie Vaught of Arkansas, and three deceased, Frederick, Lena, and Joey. Mr Schaffer passed away in 1887. Later on the 4th of October, 1888 Mrs. Schaffer was married to Geo. W Stevenson of northeast of Birds, Illinois, where they moved to the farm and then lived the remainder of her days. To this union were born, Iona Etzwiler of Pinkstaff, Stella Greer of Petrolia, Beedie Longnecker of near Lawrenceville, Floyd Stevenson of Lawrenceville and Ira Stevenson of Birds. The step-children are Henry Stevenson of Birds, Fred Stevenson of Pinkstaff, Charles Stevenson of Wilson Okla., and Ellie Piper of Wilson, Okla. She was converted almost two weeks ago with many friends in attendance and who were with her when she said she was ready to go to a better world. She leaves twenty-nine grandchildren and one sister Mrs. Ellen Baker, and a host of friends."
