Son of Thomas Singleton Proctor Craven (~1819 KY- Jul 1894 Valparaiso, NE) ------------------------------------------ URIAH BERRY CRAVEN PASSED AWAY SUNDAY Uriah Berry Craven was born April 24, 1859, near Barry in Platte county, Missouri, and at the time of his death was 65 years, 6 months and two days old. He was the son of T.S.P. and Rosann Craven. He is survived by J.T. Craven, his only brother, who resides near Bado, Texas county, Missouri, and one sister, Mrs. Susan M. Farley, of Benkleman, Nebr. He was united in marriage to Eliza F. Duncan at Emerson, Iowa, July 1 [sic], 1880. Ten children were born to this union: Mrs. Mary [sic] J. May, of Custer, S.D., Mrs. Blanche Weldon [sic], of Long Beach, Cal., Mrs. Loice E. Blodgett, of Crisco, Neb., Mrs. Susan M. Sheehan, William H. Craven, James T. Craven, Mrs. Lucy Ellis, all of Litchfield; Mrs. Maude Forcade, Mrs. Lucinda Vern Kisling and Uriah B. Craven, Jr., having preceded him to that better world. He united with the Christian church at Valparaiso, Nebr., early in life. Mr. Craven was a loving and devoted husband and father. One surviving daughter, Mrs. Blanche Weldon was unable to be present at the funeral, the remaining living children were all present. There have been twenty grandchildren, of whom four preceded him in death. Mr. Craven moved from Mills county, Iowa, to Valparaiso, Nebr., in 1881, and resided there until March 1907, when he moved to Litchfield, Nebr., and has resided here since with the exception of a few years he lived at Burwell. They have lived at the present residence five miles northwest of Litchfield for the past four years. The deceased was a member of the Masonic order, having been raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason by Square Lodge No. 151 A.F. & A.M., Valparaiso, Nebr., subsequently becoming a member of Litchfield Lodge No. 278, and they had charge of the funeral. Mr. Craven passed away at his home Sunday morning after a brief illness. Following are the pallbearers: Geo. Wolf, Geo. Hager, John Hines, Charles Gibson, John Alkire and Fred Richmond. The Monitor extends sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
