husband of Mary Craven son of T.S.P. Craven and Rosanna Miller aged 77 yrs 6 mos 15 days MO death cert. #26190 Mr. William Thomas Craven passed away at his home in west part of town at near 4 o'clock last Wednesday, July 4, after only a brief sickness just preceding his death, though he had been in poor health for a number of years past. Mr. Craven was born in Platte county, Missouri, December 19, 1856, making his age on this national holiday 71 years, 6 months and 15 days. He spent his younger days in Missouri, Illinois, and Iowa and later moved back to Nebraska, where he was married to Linda May Bates March 22, 1888. To this union five children were born: W.T. Craven, Jr., of Pender, Nebraska; an infant boy who lived only three days; Paul Craven who died in the service of the United States during the World War; Mary Craven Hesselgesser, of Valley View, Nebraska; and Owen Craven, of Bado, Mo. Mr. Craven had been a man of long experience and of excellent ability; he was a deep thinker, a good reasoner and a strong writer. During his earlier life he took a very active part in all matters of public interest. He was a member of the Christian church, of the Masonic lodge and had taken a prominent part in Masonic work in past years; he was also an Odd Fellow and a Modern Woodman of America, but in later years, on account of poor health, he had to give up the work in all lodges and church. Mr. Craven and family moved to Texas county from Nebraska some eight years ago and lived on a farm near Bado until only a few months ago when he and his wife moved to Houston and have made this their home until the silent messenger called. Mr. Craven was recognized as a good, moral, law abiding, honest gentleman, one of the best citizens of his community, and in his death the public has not only lost a most deserving and highly respected man, but this lonely wife has lost the companion of her past forty years, and a loving husband; the children have lost the father that guided them into the right paths. Such men as William T. Craven are greatly missed. Funeral services were held at the family home Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Norris Greer, and burial followed in Houston cemetery.
