HORTON, Kan. -- Charles Edward "Charlie" Schuetz, 76, Horton, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at a health-care center in Horton. Mr. Schuetz had farmed and raised livestock near Mercier, Kan., until retiring. Born in Mercier on July 11, 1924, he was a lifelong resident of that area and been a resident of a health-care center in Horton since 1985. Mr. Schuetz attended St. Peter's Catholic Church School. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Mercier, until it merged with St. Leo's Catholic Church at Horton. In his younger years, he was active in 4-H Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Maude I.; three brothers; Vernon, Leo and Dale; and an infant sister, Donna Schuetz. Survivors are one brother, James L., Horton; and four sisters; Lila Willich, Salem, Ore., Marcella Craig and Mabel Schuetz, both of Horton, and Helen Sheldon, Kearney, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Friday, St. Leo's Catholic Church, Horton. Burial in St. Peter's Cemetery, Mercier. St. Joseph News-Press,October 11, 2000.
