Son of Pacifique Hubert and Mary Girard Hubert Sioux City Journal March 23, 2005 WESTFIELD, Iowa -- Ernest Hubert, 93, of Westfield died Monday, March 21, 2005, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center in Sioux City. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. A memorial mass will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel in Sioux City. Ernest was born Feb. 28, 1912, in Burbank, S.D., the son of Pacifique and Mary (Girard) Hubert. He was raised and schooled in Vermillion, S.D. He married Luella Lethcoe on Oct. 13, 1934, in Elk Point, S.D. She passed away June 11, 1998, in Sioux City. Following their marriage, they lived in Sioux City a few years before moving to Seattle, Wash., in 1942, so he could work as a welder in the shipyards during World War II. They moved back to Sioux City in 1945 and lived there until moving to a farm near Westfield in 1963. He worked for Wilson Trailer and Co. in Sioux City for many years, retiring in 1974. He built his own and raced midget racers for years. He later became interested in horses and raised horses. He joined the Skyline Trail Riders and the Merrill Saddle Club. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include a son and his wife, Clayton and Lilas Hubert of Sioux City; two daughters, Ernestine Stowers of Westfield and Claudette and her husband, Greg Choma of Safford Springs, Conn.; four grandchildren, Laura Day, Christine Stowers, Julie Rurak and Michael Choma; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four sisters; eight brothers; and a grandson, Eric Hubert.
