Bio

James was the second of eight children born to Abraham and Susan (Ward) Houghland who were both natives of Kentucky. In February, 1849, he married Melinda Johnson, of Warrick Co. and they were the parents of eight children. in the U.S., Civil War Draft Registrations Records, 1863-1865 Age on 1 July 1863 ~~ 40 Race White Residence Boon, Warrick, Indiana In politics, Mr. Hougland is a stanch Republican and he and wife have been leading members of the German baptist Church for about twenty-five years.
