Bio
Elizabeth was a daughter of James Abraham Houghland and Melinda Electa Johnson (married in 1849). Her 7 siblings were: Abraham James 1849-1875 Elizabeth 1851-1855 Martha "Mattie" 1855-1900 m. Charles Baker Caroline 1856-1860 Kella 1859- m. Louisa W. Casey Baker Robert J. 1862- Charles J. 1865-1943 m. Elizabeth Jane Whitney 1862-1944 Sophrona Anna 1868-1900 m. W.H.Mills -1900 On Elizabeth's tombstone (1851-1855, not shown on the stone) at Lowell-Fuller Cemetery shows J & M Hougland below her name. There is speculation that Elizabeth's parents were Jesse L. Houghland and Matilda Tanner. It's difficult to speculate that they were her parents because they were married several years later (1857). In 1851, Jesse then a lad 14-15 years old and so was Matilda. I now think that we are nearing a stage where we can reconstruct the family of James Hougland & Melinda Electa Johnson with some reasonable certainty.
