Bio

Pauline (Walker) Colwell, 91, of Zavalla, was born September 2, 1919 in Huntington (Ora Community) to the late Roxie Ann (Ivy) and Charlie Edward Walker. She passed away Monday, January 31, 2011 in a Huntington nursing facility. Mrs. Colwell was born in the Ora Community and lived most of her life in Angelina County. She graduated from Huntington High School in 1940. Shortly after graduation, she married Robert J. Colwell, Sr. She worked for the City of Lufkin for 8 years. She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and working with her flowers. Mrs. Colwell was a faithful member of Zavalla First Baptist Church and sang in the choir. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Ann Colwell of Lufkin; grandchildren, Becky Phillips and husband Len, Susan Waggonner and husband Joey, Anna Colwell and Brittany Sage; great-grandchildren, Josh Rhoden, Michael Phillips, Natalie Phillips, Jenna Waggonner, Wesley Waggonner and Kacie Waggoner; step-son, Jerry Patterson and wife Nila of Allentown; step-granddaughter, Stacie Young and husband Michael; step-great grandchildren, Morgan and Madison Young; sisters, Iva Nell Thornton, Jeffie Dell McCoy and Margie Harris, all of Huntington; brother-in-law, Harrell Colwell of Liberty; sister-in-law, Sarah Colwell of Huntington; and a number of other family members. Mrs. Colwell was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert J. Colwell, Sr.; son, Robert J. Colwell, Jr.; and brothers, Lloyd Walker, R.B. Walker and Berlon Walker. Pallbearers will be Jesse Walker, Roy Walker, Kenneth Walker, Glenn Walker, Steve Thornton and Larry Harvard. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Thornton and Mike Walker. Mrs. Colwell's family wish to extend special thanks to Huntington Health Care and Dr. Lenin Pinnamaneni and his staff for the loving care shown to her during her extended illness. Services for Mrs. Colwell will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 3, 2011 in the Zavalla First Baptist Church, with Bro. Jackson Colwell and Reverend Jacob Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow in the Zavalla Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home. Services have been placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
