Maria Lucia/"Lucy" Gerards was the daughter of Joannis Matthias Gerards. She had the following siblings: Jodocus and Nicholaus of Mills County, Iowa and Joseph, Henry and Catherine. Lucy first married Quirinum/"Quirin" Hubertum Calenberg on Nov. 24, 1856 in Holzweiler, Ahrweiler, Rheinland, Prussia. Quirinum was the son of Michaelis Josephi Calenberg and Bernardinae Wolber. To the union of Lucy and Quirin, at least 4 children were born: John Matthew, Peter, Margaret and Anna Clara. Children were believed to have been born in or near the village of Vettlehoven. Lucy immigrated to the United States in 1868 on the ship Hansa along with her 4 children, her brother Nicholaus Gerards, already of Oak, Mills County, Iowa and her future 2nd husband, Hubert Jaax. Lucy and Hubert, lived out their adult lives farming, and raising the 4 Calenberg children in rural Polk County, Nebraska under the Jaax name. Other recorded history: Lucy's death certificate reflected a date of birth of Feb 29, 1828, seemingly a leap year baby. She passed Mar. 2, 1920 on the farm homestead, Canada township, rural Polk county, Nebraska, 7 miles N-E of Shelby. Source: compiled sourced research of D. Henggeler as of 2010.
