Bio

James Leonard "Jim" Mayfield, was born January 25, 1872, near the Van Zandt and Henderson County line. His parents were James and Nancy E. Collins. Jim married Texana Dodd on June 21, 1896, in Henderson County and the couple soon settled in Kaufman County and raised nine children. Jim and Texana were successful farmers and respected members of their community. Jim died on September 27, 1927, after contacting an infection while doctoring a sick cow. Jim was preceded in death by six infants, and survived by his wife "Texaner" as she was known and children; Essie Mae, George Archie, James Albert, Ethel Marie, Clifton, Izora, Troy, LeeRoy and Myrtle Louise.
