Mrs. P. M. Watson Martha Alice Stephens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis M. Stephens, was born at Pulaska Kentucky, October 21, 1867, and passed away at the Powers Home in Fairfield Saturday October 15, 1949, at 1:00 p.m. at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 24 days. She moved with her parents to Dade county (sic), Missouri, at the age of 5 years. On November 4, 1888, she was united in marriage to Phillip Michial Watson. They came to Nebraska in 1916. for the last 15 years the home was in Fairfield. To this union twelve children were born, five of who preceded her in death. She was baptized and joined the Missionary Baptist church (sic) of Pleasant Grove, Missouri, at the age of 16 years and was a faithful servant of the Lord until her death. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and family loyalty bears witness to that fact. Though confined to her bed most of the last nine years she never complained. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband; seven children including six sons and one daughter. They are: Lester and Frank of Loekwood, Missouri; Herbert of Roundup, Montana; Edd of Fairfield, Nebraska; Phillip Jr. of Marquette, Nebraska; Ova of Hastings, Nebraska; and Mrs. Amy King of Fremont, Nebraska. Besides these there are four brothers and two sisters, 17 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, as well as other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 18, 1949, at 1:30 p.m.. at the Fairfield Christian church (sic) with Rev. E. E. Smith, pastor of the Edgar Christian church (sic) in charge. Mrs. Gaylord Patton, Mrs. Robert Grimes, Ben Johnson and Jay Hubbell sang "Going Down the Valley," "God Will Take Care of You" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." Mrs. Ralph Kissinger was at the piano. Pallbearers were: Earl Basey, Fred Gearhart, Glenn Woods, Wm. Wallenberg, Charles White and Charles Goosic. Interment was in the Grand Island cemetery.
