Sioux Falls ~ Marvin H. Parks, 97, died peacefully Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at Palisade Manor in Garretson, SD. Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Wesley United Methodist Church with burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Friday, May 27, at George Boom Funeral Home with the family present from 7:00 – 8:00 PM. Marvin Henry Parks, son of Benjamin and Mary (Swind) Parks, was born May 5, 1908 in Chester, SD. He was the youngest of 11 children. Marvin grew up on several farms in the Chester area before moving to Sioux Falls. He graduated from Washington High School. Marvin was united in marriage with Lois Howlett on January 1, 1930. He enjoyed playing cards and bowling. Marvin retired from Crane Company after more than 30 years of service. Then he worked part time for R & L Supply until he was 80. He and his wife Lois also operated Lo-Mar Ceramics for several years. Marvin has been an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church for many years. Grateful for having shared his life are his two sons, Ronald A. Parks and his wife, Linda, Mitchell, SD, Marvin A. Parks, Montevideo, MN; three daughters, Shirley Hovdenes, Sioux Falls, SD, Joelene Johnson and her husband, Orlen, Lincoln, NE, LeeAnn McGregor and her husband, Dave, Kearney, NE; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Iola (Parks) Nelson, Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; his parents; 10 brothers and sisters; a grandson, Rich Hovdenes; a granddaughter, Paula (Hovdenes) Cady; a daughter-in-law, Carol Park; and a son-in-law, Paul Hovdenes. Memorials may be directed to Wesley United Methodist Church Elevator Fund.
