Bio

Joelene I. Johnson, 83, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. She was born October 15, 1933 to Marvin and Lois (Howlett) Parks in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School. Joelene married Orlen Johnson on April 13, 1952 at Wesley Methodist Church in Sioux Falls. During their marriage they lived in California, South Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, Massachusetts, Maryland and Nebraska. Early in their marriage she had several jobs, as a Controller at Sears Roebuck, as a secretary for an insurance agent, and as a secretary for the manager at Ceco Steel Company. From then on she was a stay at home mom. Joelene enjoyed playing cards and her hobby of genealogy. She was referred to as the best Mother in the world by her family. Preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Shirley (Paul) Hovdenes; brother, Marvin (Carol) Parks; brother-in-law, David McGregor. Grateful for having her life are: her husband of nearly 65 years, Orlen; children, Nancy Johnson, Linda Johnson, Christine (John) Essay, Joel (Sarah) Johnson, Mark (Kristin) Johnson, Wesley (Kristin) Johnson; fifteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Linda) Parks; sister, LeAnn McGregor. Celebration of Life service on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Christ United Methodist Church in Lincoln. Joelene’s final resting place will be at the Christ United Methodist Church Columbarium.
