Alice "Merle" Roman , age 78, entered her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior and many loved ones on March 7, 2010. Her courageous battle with cancer for the last two years was a testament to her love of life and an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. As one of George and Lillian Chapman's 8 children, Merle was born on April 22, 1931 in Lamesa, Texas. She attended school in the Knott community and following graduation married the love of her life, Bobby Wayne Roman on November 23, 1948. God blessed them with two children, Sharon Diane and Alan Wayne. Merle was a beautician and owned her own hair salon in Knott for five years. She was a loving homemaker, wife, and mother to her family. Cooking and entertaining family and friends brought her great joy. One of her favorite past times was fishing. She was an active member of Kelview Heights Baptist Church and loved serving in her Sunday School Department up until the time of her illness. Merle was preceeded in death by her beloved husband Bobby on April 21, 2009; her parents George and Lillian Chapman; three brothers Alton, Raymond and Donnie Chapman; one sister Arlene Montgomery; and a grandson Michael Minnick. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Marcum and husband David of Midland; son, Alan Roman and wife Cathey of Midland; grandsons, John Minnick and wife Tamara of Midland, Jeffrey Roman and wife Kristen of Weatherford, Josh Marcum and wife Kimberly of Aubrey and Stephen Marcum of Midland; one granddaughter, and twin great-grandchildren, three sisters Louise Willborn, Hazel Barnes and Shirley Paige of Big Spring; and many nieces and nephews and a multitude of dear friends. Services will be held at Kelview Heights Baptist Church in Midland on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 10:00 AM with interment at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kelview Heights Baptist Church, 402 W. Scharbauer, Midland, Texas 79705; or to Hospice of Midland, PO Box 2621, Midland, Texas 79702. Arrangments are under the direction of Nalley – Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
