Bio
Funeral services were held for the late Karl Islakar Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church at 1:30 o'clock. The services were in charge of the pastor, Rev. V. S. Chaffee. The music was furnished by Mrs. A.J. Carlson and Mrs. Carl Green of Lake City accompanied her. The pall bearers were John F. Foster, H.B. Brooks, Ernest Lee, Roy Smith, H.B. Hoelscher and Joe Burcham. Interment was in the Kellar cemetery. Mr. Islakar was born December 17, 1881, in Jugo Slavia. In 1906 he and Miss Kristina Struber were united in marriage. One son, who died at the age of six months, was born while they were living there. Soon after they came to the United States and after living in Livingston a short time they moved to Lovington. They made their home here until Mrs. Islakar passed away on July 25, 1944. Two children, Henry and Mrs. Kristina Goochey, both of Gardena, Calif., were born here. There are also three grandchildren. The deceased worked at the Lovington coal mine here for many years. After the mine was closed he operated a pool room for sometime. He retired ten years ago. Last year when his son and family moved to California, Mr. Islakar accompanied them. Later he lived in a trailer. About two weeks ago, Mr. Islakar became ill and went to the home of his daughter. Later his case was diagnosed as a ruptured appendix and his condition was so serious that they could not operate. He grew rapidly worse. He was given the finest care by his daughter, Mrs. Goochey, who is a trained nurse and his son, but the end came about midnight Saturday. Mrs. Goochey and son, Tommy, and her brother Henry Islakar, came by plane from California and arrived here Monday night. The body of their father was also shipped through by plane and was brought to the McMullin Funeral home Wednesday morning.
