Bio

Rosenberg Herald, January 25, 1952: A Lamar High School freshman, Miss Mary Ann David, 16, died in a Houston hospital last Thursday night after having been ill only 24 hours. She had reportedly been ill with a severe cold several days before that but was in school on Wednesday. She was first taken to Laura Eldridge Hospital in Sugar Land but removed to Houston for further diagnosis. After her death, an autopsy was taken and the report read that a meningitis germ was found in the blood stream but that it had not attacked the spinal cord. It further stated that the girl's death was due to having been "run down", thereby making her easy prey for the germ which is ever present in most people's throats. Supt. F.C. Herndon, who checked with the county health doctor's report, said he was told no preventative measures were known in cases like this but that there was little chance that other students would catch the disease. Miss Davis was the daughter of Louis David. She was born Sept. 2, 1935 at Orchard. Her mother died three years ago. The family moved to Rosenberg in 1939. She attended the Holy Rosary School until she graduated there. Final rites were held at the Triska Funeral Home Chapel Saturday and Requiem Mass was said at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Rev. Jerome J. Tydlacka officiating. Pallbearers were Frankie Mensik, Jerry and Edmund Drabek, Ewald Zwahr, Frankie David, and Leonard Mensik. Flower girls were Sidie Mae Drabek, Delores Nesvadba, Barbara Bezecny, Georgia Stavinoha, Elizabeth Cernoch, Mary Elizabeth Petter, Dorothy Mae Pyka, and Otillie Chovanec. Interment was in the Holy Rosary Cemetery with Triska directing.
