Retired Judge Milton Claire Gallagher died at 9:40 a.m. on March 15, 2007 at Charlton Methodist Hospital.He was born on September 29,1929 in Ennis, Texas the son of Claude M amd Lockie Basha Burris Gallagher, Sr. He. Was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Louise Gallagher Thompson and husband John Dee Thompson, Claudia Juanita Gallagher Parker and husband Noble Parker, and a brother Claude M. Gallagher Jr. and wife Marie. Judge Gallagher attended Ennis Public Schools and graduated from St. John High School in 1946. In December 1946 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, receiving eight weeks Infantry Training and sixteen weeks Armor Training at Fort Knox Kentucky, subsequently being assigned to the 716th M.P. BN, Fort Dix New Jersey where he was a Personnel Admininistrator, and a Military Policeman. He also served as a member of the 716th M.P. BN., Burial Honor Guard,providing military burial services for World War ii dead brought home to New Jersey. He attended a 12 week Military Administer Course and later an eight week Military Police and Criminal Investigation School. October 1950 he was assigned to the 59th M.P. Company and was transferred to North Korea, landing in Hungnam. He completed 18 months war time service in North and South Korea retuning to the U.S. in May 1952. He married his childhood sweetheart Eleanor Elizabeth (Elaine) Miller on June 22, 1952. He was then assigned to the ROTC Instructor Staff at Tarleton State College in Stephenville, Texas for two years when his son Michael was born. He was next assigned to the 850th Aviation Engineer Battalion at Merignac Air Force Base in France, as Battalion Sgt. Major in December 1954, accompanied by his wife Elaine and son Michael. They lived in the French farm community of Gradignan where they were blessed with two sons born in France ,John and Robert. Upon completion of a three year tour he was assigned to the Adjutant General's Corp., as a Personnel Administrator for six years at Fort Hood Texas, where their daughter Kathleen was born. He was next assigned to the 6th BN., 40th Artillery, as a First Sgt, Hanau, Germany for three years. Their son Kevin was born in Germany during this tour. His last assignment was at Artillery Officer Candidate School at Ft. Sill Oklahoma, from which he retired on October 1 1967 after twenty one years military service. For four years after retirement he worked as a police officer for the Ennis Police Department. In 1974 Milton ran for Justice of the Peace of the local precinct, was successful in his election bid and was re-elected four times. He retired from office April 1993 with nineteen and one-half years in office. Milton was an American patriot and died as an American patriot; with deep love for his country and his fellow countrymen. His biggest loves were his family and his belief in Christianity and his love of his country. Milton was a member of St. John Catholic Church;North Texas JP and Constable Association;VFW; Knights of Columbus; American Legion;SPJST;Sokol; and Ellis Co. Sheriff Association. Milton is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elaine; sons Michael and his wife Susanne, John and wife Debbie, Robert and wife Jayne, and daughter Kathleen and son Kevin. Grandchildren Crystal Gallagher Edgel, John Gallagher,Jr., Jennifer Gallagher, Robert Gallagher,Jr.,Stephanie Prachyl Manion,Jessica Prachyl,Andrew Prachyl, and Daniel. Step grandson Andrew Novak and step grandayghters Sharon and Suzanne Hamala. Great grandchildren Jordan, Joseph,Avary,Zachary, Nicholas,Benjamin,Ava,and Lilly. His special dog, Missy. Rosary Service will be held at 4p.m. Sunday with visitaton following until 6 p.m. in the Keever Chapel, Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. Monday with Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Joseph Cemetery in Ennis or to St. Jude's Chapel 1521 Main St. Dallas, Tx 75201.
