Bio

Richard A. Blaha, of Omaha, NE. formerly of Kearney, NE. and Ord, NE., died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at Golden Living Center in Omaha, NE. Richard was born July 26, 1932, in Ord, NE. to Rudolf and Mary (Hulinsky) Blaha. On April 9, 1956, he married Leora Richart in Neligh, NE. She preceded him in death. Survivors are: sons, Douglas B;aha of Belmont, MI., James Blaha of Council Bluffs, IA. and Jerry Blaha of Kearney, NE.; daughter, Christine Welliver of Pleasanton, NE.; sister, Alice Witherwax of Vancouver, WA.; and seven grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Jacki of Belmont, NE. and Terri of Council Bluffs, IA.; and son-in-law, Douglas Welliver of Pleasanton, NE. Richard was raised in Ord, NE. and graduated from Ord (NE.) High School. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He returned home to work in communications. He started working for GTE in May 1952 and became a construction supervisor in February 1980. In 1988, he retired and the couple moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ., where they resided for 14 years. They moved to Ord, NE. where he lived for four years. Richard was a member of the Kearney (NE.) Volunteer Fire Department, Kearney (NE.) Elks Club, Kearney (NE.) Eagles Club, VFW, American Legion and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord, NE. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his friends and family. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Lori Blaha; and brother, William Blaha. Published in The Grand Island Independent on 1/21/2010
