Below was written by Bill Corn, ggrandson of Craton Pickelsimer Craton "Crate" Pickelsimer was born in Buncombe County, North Carolina on 14 mar 1818 to David H Pickelsimer, Sr and Nancy Rogers. Craton became and blacksmith and worked that trade until the Civil War started. Sometime later he joined the Confederate Army. He was private in Ledford's Georgia Militia. With him being over forty years old he probably worked as a blacksmith while in the military. At some time during the time that he was in the army after being discharged he was injured and lost his sight. He was sightless the remainder of his life. Craten married Josephine "Lydia" Barnes 24 jan 1848. They had thirteen children and many many offspring. They are scattered all over North Georgia and surrounding areas.
