Lydia's name was always known to our family as Lydia Bush Walker Comstock. Research appears to show that Lydia's maiden name was Bush and Walker may have been a first marriage. If so, it appears to have been a marriage of very short duration, unknown if children were born to the union, and was not referred to within family documents. Lydia was married to Coleman Cumstock/Comstock in Knox, KY, 21 May 1821 at the age of 22 and did not remarry after his death but did continue to live with or nearby her children and move as they moved until settling in Richland Twp., Decatur Co., IA. At that point records indicate her mother Nancy Owen also lived with the family for a time. Family removed to Decatur Co, Iowa approx. 1856. Shared by cakemp 2015: From lookup volunteer Clarence Priest, [email protected] , 401 S.E. Idaho, Leon, IA 50144, Decatur Co, IA, the following death notice for Lydia which appears in the Decatur County (IA) Journal dated March 12, 1885, under column Grand River Gossip: "The old lady Comstock died at her home last Thursday, the funeral being held on Friday. She was about seventy-three years of age." Interesting to note she died on the exact same day (March 4) as her son, George, had 22 years previously during the Civil War, 1863. Info about the Young Cemetery found at the Decatur Co, IA genweb site: "Land was laid out for the Young Cemetery by a farm owner, John Landis Young, who came to Decatur County from Indiana in 1851 or 1852. According to some records, the first burial was a child by the name of Potter. (There is no tombstone however. Many of the burials were of those who came from Indiana in the wagon train of 1855 - McConnell, Millstead, Brammer, Briner, Bohall, and others." SDDNote: Lydia's daughter, Nancy Melvina Comstock Young, married into this Young family.
