Graveside services for Melvin Franklin 'Putt' Bearden, 72, of 808 East 10th Street, were held Wednesday at the Colorado City Cemetery with Rev. E. J. Lelek officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Inc. Mr. Bearden passed away Monday, August 19, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. He was born January 22, 19 19 in Garden Valley, Texas. Mr. Bearden was a truck driver. He served in the United States Army during World War I I and was a long time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He married Alene Forbes Bearden on November 20, 1940. Bearden was preceded in death by his parents, George Redden and Sally Bearden. Survivors include his wife; one son, David Bearden of Waggoner, Oklahoma; six daughters, Becky Gumm of Torrance, California, Susie Wilkinson of Abilene, Valerie Redwine of Colorado City, Sharon Bearden of Austin, Rhonda Lelek of Snyder and Liz Rodriguez of Wickett; one brother, Claude Eugene Bearden of Colorado City; one sister, Bea Sears of San Antonio; eighteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
