The Brainard Clipper (Brainard, Nebr.), July 4, 1940, p. 1, col. 5 JACOB WAISS PASSES AWAY Jacob C. Waiss of near Loma passed away Wednesday evening, July 3, at 5:15 o'clock at St. Elizabeth's hospital, Lincoln, where he had been for several weeks. He was in his 66th year and had been in failing health for some time. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock from St. Luke's church, Loma. Waiss, a resident of the Loma community for many years passed away July 3, at the age of sixty-six years, following illness of about three months duration. Funeral services were held July 5, at St. Luke's Catholic church, Loma, with the pastor Rev. Francis J. Leiblinger celebrating the requiem high Mass. Burial was in the St. Luke's cemetery with Louis Navratil, Edw. Kudlacek, Anton Trpisovsky, Jos. W. Frahm, Joseph Capoun and Anton Kocian Sr. as pallbearers. Folks from a distance in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Waiss of Tacoma, Wash., Mr. and Mrs. Jos. J. Lorenz of Britt, Iowa, Dr. and Mrs. D. B. Kantor of Fairbury, Matt Kantor, Mrs. Joseph Janousek, Mrs. J. Kacirek and Mrs. J. J. Horinek of Kansas and Miss Agnes Waiss of Chicago. Also present were Rt. Rev. Msgr. A. J. Klein and Rev. Edward Kolar of Brainard, and Rev. Benedict Bauer and Rev. Gregory Petrus of Dwight, and a large host of other friends and relatives. Jacob Cyril Waiss was born July 20, 1874 at Nirstice, Margaraviate, Moravia, the son of Frank and Anna Waiss. He came to America with his parents and family, as a young man for a number of years they resided in Saunders county near Weston. On January 11, 1897, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Kantor at St. John's church, Weston, and their entire married life was spent on their home farm northwest of Loma. Mr. Waiss is survived by his wife, three sons, George R. of Tacoma, Washington, Frank and Adolph of Loma, seven daughters, Mrs. Elenore Jesch of Stratton, Nebr., Mrs. Mary Pospisil, Mrs. Magdaline Pesek and Mrs. Anne Daugherty all of David City, Mrs. Theresa Hawkinson of Valparaiso, Miss Agnes Waiss of Chicago and Miss Gene Marie Waiss of Loma. Three sons died in infancy. He also leaves twenty-two grandchildren, and one brother, V. J. Waiss, of Valparaiso. Mr. Waiss was a staunch Catholic, serving as a trustee at St. Luke's church for 24 years and as secretary of the St. Luke's Branch K. D. Society 23 years. He also served as a member of the school district board for 26 years. He was a true and loyal friend and an affectionate husband and father, and he will be greatly missed and long remembered by all who knew him.
