Longtime Stockton resident, Irwin Joseph Iwanski, age 80, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Solomon Valley Manor, Stockton. He was born September 6, 1929, the son of James Joseph and Katherine (Kusek) Iwanski, in Elyria, Nebraska. Irwin graduated high school in 1947. He went to railroad school, and then went on to serve our country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army. He worked as a service manager for KN Energy until retirement. On September 14, 1954, Irwin was united in marriage to Virginia Kowalewski in Loup City, Nebraska. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage together. He was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and was a life member of the Stockton VFW. First and foremost, Irwin was a family man, cherishing every moment spent with his family. To say Irwin was an avid golfer is an understatement; you could find him on the golf course almost daily when weather permitted. He was known for his vivid memory of even the finest details of years gone by, and was a talented story teller. Irwin will be missed by his wife, Virginia, of the family home; four daughters Karen and husband David Dugan of Basehor, Kansas, Linda and husband Tom Paitz of Columbus, Nebraska, Cheryl and husband Andy Casad of Seward, Nebraska and Mary and husband Rex Barker of Omaha, Nebraska; one son Craig and wife Jessica of Stockton; two sisters Betty Briggs of Calistoga, California and Evelyn Paprocki of Ord, Nebraska; ten grandsons; three granddaughters; and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Floyd; two sisters Eleanore Rysavy and Iryne Kapustka; and one infant son. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the St. Thomas Catholic Church, in Stockton. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Kemp Family Funeral Chapel "Chapel on The Hill", 805 North Cedar, Stockton, KS 67669. A parish vigil service will be held Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Thomas Catholic Church, the Rooks County Health Center, or the Solomon Valley Manor, and may be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
