Bio

George Ferdinand "Butch" Kruml, 91, of Ravenna, formerly of Ord, died Dec. 28, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Ravenna. Butch was born Jan. 8, 1918, at Ord to James Matthew and Rosalie Mary (Krecji) Kruml. Butch was raised on the family farm in the Gravel Creek area north of Ord. Butch received his early education in rural and public schools. He graduated from Ord High School in 1933. Following graduation, he cared for his parents and did construction work. In 1938, Butch and his brother, Ed ranched near Ericson. Butch served in the United States Army from March 11, 1941 to June 3, 1943 and was stationed Fort Leonard Wood, Kan., and other various bases. After the service, he returned to Ord and worked on construction. Beginning in 1949, Butch was involved in the installation of rural power. He worked on this project in Nebraska, Colorado and South Dakota for eight years. For a few years Butch was postal carrier in the Ord area. He then became involved in contracting painting, where he worked locally and through out the central Nebraska area on larger painting projects. In 1982, Butch moved to the Rolling Hills Terrance where he was one of the first residents. Later he moved to a duplex and then resided at Grandview Assisted and Independent Living Center. For the past five years Butch has made his home at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Ravenna. Butch was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Elks Lodge, and the American Legion. His hobbies included reading, hunting, fishing and collection records. He was also very interested in politics and national events. In his younger days, Butch and John and Jack Pesek traveled around United States where they performed exhibition wrestling. Butch and the Peseks enjoyed traveling together and were able to continue their friendships in their later years. Survivors are: nephew, Ed Kruml and his wife, Mary Lou, of Ord, niece, JoAnn Schainost and her husband, Rod, of Bloomfield; great-nephews, Mike and Lana Kruml of Ericson, Tom and Ginny Kruml of Ord, and Michael Schainost of Kearney; great-nieces, Kelly and Clayton McDonald of Norfolk and Becky Schainost of Murdock and a host of relatives and friends. Butch was preceded in death by: parents; brothers, Dr. J.G., Kruml, Ed Kruml and infant brother; sisters, Marie Carkowski, Agnes Lemaster and Lillian Kruml. Inurnment was in the Ord City Cemetery, Ord, NE Published in The Grand Island Independent on January 7, 2010
