An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Friday, December 6, 1968: Mrs. Essie B. Maxwell, 82, of Gatesville died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in a Belton rest home. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. G. L. Derrick, were held at 2 p. m. Thursday in Scott's Funeral Home chapel. Burial was in Restland Cemetery. Mrs. Maxwell had lived in Coryell County for 61 years. She was born in McKinney Oct. 31, 1886, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Keener. She was married to James S. Maxwell, a farmer, on Aug. 11, 1903. He died in 1949. Mrs. Maxwell was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She is survived by five sons, Oliver Maxwell of Clifton, Milton Maxwell of Waco, W. B. Maxwell of Austin, Stephen Maxwell of Gatesville and Clifford Maxwell of Austin; six daughters, Mrs. Inez Argabright of McGregor, Mrs. Annie Argabright of Oglesby, Mrs. Ray Hodge of King, Mrs. Nettie Doherty of Levita, Mrs. Stella Mae Cox of Gatesville and Mrs. Ida Bell Pruitt of Fort Gates; four brothers, Mace Keener, Willie Keener and Jessie Keener, all of Gatesville, and Arthur Keener of Dallas; three sisters, Mrs. Claude Bean, Mrs. Ira Graham and Mrs. H. P. Brookshire Sr., all of Gatesville; 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
