LAKEVIEW - Russell James Payne, 90, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1998.Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church of Memphis with the Rev. Neely Landrum officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Lakeview by Memphis Funeral Home. Mr. Payne was born in Nettleton, Miss., and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired farmer and former mayor of Lakeview. He was a superintendent of Sunday school and chairman of the board of the Methodist church. He moved to Abilene six months ago. Survivors include his wife, Berneice; three daughters, Lavon Bello of Paso Robles, Calif., Tommie Newton of Abilene and Judy Fulton of Perryton; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Lakeview Cemetery Association of Lakeview.
