An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Thursday, 8-20-1970: Mrs. J. H. Ayres of The Grove died at 7:30 p. m. last Wednesday in the local hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 95. Funeral services were, held at 10 a. m. Friday in Scott's Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Wright Price officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery. Born Sarah Jane O'Neal on Oct. 23,1874, in Robinson County, Mrs. Ayres came to Coryell County in 1915 and lived near Flat until moving to The Grove in 1954. Her husband died in 1950. Mrs. Ayres was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors are one son, Will Ayres of Waco; three daughters, Mrs. C. A. Patterson of Rt. 1, Gatesville, Mrs. Daisy James of Texas City, and Mrs. Arvine Parson of Fort Worth; 17 grandchildren; 45 greatgrandchildren; and 20 greatgreat-grandchildren. Pallbearers for Mrs. Ayres' funeral services were Clyde Patterson, Willie Joe Edwards, Harve James Jr., Jimmy Ideker, Boyce Patterson and Darwin Geiselbrecht.
